A hoodie is a sweatshirt with a hood. Usually, hoodies are made of cotton. The hoodies often have a drawstring that you can use to pull it tighter. Also, hoodies often have a pouch pocket. A hoodie is also often worn as part of a tracksuit. Hooded sweaters have been made since medieval times, but the hoodie as we know it today has its origins in the ports of New York at the beginning of the last century. These hoodies were worn by dock workers, later the hoodie was often worn as sportswear.
Since the 1970s, the hoodie has also become fairly accepted in fashion, although it is occasionally associated with crime. When hip-hop came into fashion during the 1970s and rappers often wore hoodies, they put the garment back on the map. The fact that Sylvester Stallone wore a hoodie in the Rocky movies also added to its popularity.
