Black tie definition

Black tie, also known by the French name crevate noire, is a dress code where male guests are expected to appear in a tuxedo. The name refers to the black ties traditionally worn at these events. Nowadays, black tie is mainly required at formal occasions such as galas, award ceremonies, (royal) ceremonies, and weddings. It is customary to wear a tuxedo only after 6:00 p.m. 

Black tie etiquette

The tuxedo consists of specific elements and various rules. It is considered inappropriate to wear a watch as it gives a rushed impression. Additionally, at these events, you won't see any belts or neckties, but you will see suspenders and matching cufflinks.
